VIIth Conference - Launch Event in Derio, Basque



On June 10th, La Via Campesina, together with members of the International Coordination Committee, held a public event in Derio to mark the beginning of the process leading to the 7th International Conference, which will be held in the Basque country in July 2017. The International Conferences take place every four years. They constitute La Via Campesina's highest collective decision-making body and its most important space for debate and discussion and for developing a mobilisation agenda for the peasant and farmer movement.

NFU at Canadian Milk Matters Rallies on Parliament Hill and in PEI


Diafiltered milk is a highly concentrated milk protein ingredient that is being produced by American dairy processors for export to Canada as a way to avoid tariffs. Trade regulations define it as "not milk", however, imported diafiltered milk is increasingly being used in cheese production instead of actual milk produced by Canadian farmers on Canadian farms. Mr. Namgi Baek, a farmer, has been lying unconscious in a hospital bed in Seoul, after being brutally hit by a water cannon during a peasant protest on November 14, 2015. Ms. Minjuwha Beak, daughter of Brother Baek, delivered a short speech before the UN Human Rights council in June, seeking justice for her father, for union leader Mr. Sang-kyun Han and hundreds of peasants under various forms of attack. The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, or TTIP, is a deal to cut tariffs and regulatory barriers to trade between the US and EU countries, making it easier for companies on both sides of the Atlantic to access each other's markets. Industries it would affect include pharmaceuticals, cars, energy, finance, chemicals, clothing and food and drink. But not everyone believes it would be a good thing, as the BBC's Catrin Nye reports.

Pun Pun Farm and a Philosophy for life | by The Source Project 

Pun Pun is a small organic farm, seed saving center, and sustainable living and learning center in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Farmers here strive to find more ways to live a more self reliant lifestyle by growing organic food, building their own natural homes, and experimenting with low tech appropriate technologies. They seek to bring back the tradition of seed saving amongst farmers and growers by collecting, propagating, and exchanging indigenous and rare varieties.
